Abstract

The Congenital Absence of Patella is a rare condition that can occur isolated or associated with other diseases like Nail-Patella Syndrome, Small Patella Syndrome, Genitopatellar Syndrome or Meier-Gorlin Syndrome. Its isolated form usually occurs in the Familiar Aplasia or Hypoplasia of Patella, but sporadic cases were described in literature. Frequently, the Congenital Absence of Patella doesn’t cause any important dysfunction in life of patients, nevertheless there are some cases with difficulties for running, jumping, climbing stairs and practicing sports. There are no cases of Congenital Absence of Patella in elderly described in literature. This case report presents and discussesa 71 years old woman, farmer, who searched the emergency unit, due to a right knee sprain and was diagnosed with Congenital Absence of Patella.
