Abstract

The occurrence of fire during oculoplastic surgery is rare, but can have serious consequences for the patient. Our purpose is report two patients who sustained a fire burn during a routine blepharoplasty operation and discuss the ways of prevention of this rare tragic complication giving emphasis for each element of the fire triad. Surgeons should try to separate the elements of the fire triad (fuels, oxidizes and ignition sources) or eliminate any of them, in order to minimize or prevent such events.
