Chronic venous insufficiency (CVI) affects the deepvenous system, perforating-communicating veinsand superficial venous system that is clinical lyexpressed in varicose veins of the lower limbs. Objective: Toverify risk factors for CVI in the neotropical region. Factors raised in anauthorial cross-sectional study (R.S.L.). Methods: The study was carried out on companions of patients admitted to any special ty of the university hospital. Semiological questionnaires (Aberdeen and another authorial) were applied. Venousvalves, deepve in thrombosis or previous vascular trauma, varicocele, pelvicvenous disease, type of foot wear, adhesion to the use of elasto-compressionstockings, and controversies. Results: We observed a relationship between the risk factors of sex, age and ethnicity, which were significant, with a predominance of pathology in females. We found that the incidence of venous disease in the lower limbs was progressively higher as age increased and the predominant ethnic group was brown followed by white. Black ethnicity had a lower prevalence in accordance with the literature.
